GORDON FOOD SERVICE® ANNOUNCES PLANS TO CONSOLIDATE DISTRIBUTION CENTERS IN KENTUCKY AND TENNESSEE
Grand Rapids, MI, July 15, 2005 - Gordon Food Service
(GFS) announced today it will consolidate its East Bernstadt , KY
and Martin , TN distribution centers into a new state-of-the-art distribution
center currently under construction near Louisville , KY when that facility
opens in February 2006. The distribution centers in East Bernstadt and Martin
are expected to close in April, 2006.
“After a thorough analysis of our distribution network, we
have determined that consolidating our distribution centers is the
best way to serve our customers in the region as efficiently and effectively
as possible,” said Rich Wolowski, General Manager of Gordon
Food Service – ID Division.
“We regret the impact this change will have on our employees
at the affected distribution centers, their
families and the communities where they
reside,” said Wolowski.
He emphasized that Gordon Food Service
is encouraging these employees to apply
for open positions at the new facility
as well as other Gordon Food Service distribution centers. “We
appreciate the contribution these employees
have made to Gordon Food Service and are
hopeful that many will take advantage of other opportunities within
the company.” Employees who do not secure positions at other
Gordon Food Service facilities and commit to staying through the required
employment dates will be offered a severance
package to assist them in their efforts to secure other employment
opportunities.
