Gordon Food Service announced today that it has been awarded LEED® Silver certification for its headquarters in Wyoming, Michigan. The LEED rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings, homes, and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained, and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.

The Gordon Food Service Home Office is located at 1300 Gezon Parkway in Wyoming, Michigan. In September 2011, Gordon Food Service broke ground on the new building, necessitated by an expanding workforce. The design, construction, and operation of the building were driven by eco-friendly strategies set forth in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system. The 384,000-square-foot building was completed in September 2012 and serves as the company headquarters and primary workplace for over 1,200 employees.

“The Gordon Food Service Home Office emulates the balance between a productive and enjoyable work space and a sustainable future. Efficient design that promotes a healthy working and living environment benefits everyone—our customers, our employees, and our community,” said Jim Gordon, CEO of Gordon Food Service.

Gordon Food Service achieved LEED Silver certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at achieving high performance in sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.

The design and construction partners included Integrated Architecture and Dan Vos Construction Company.

“Gordon Food Service’s achievement of LEED Silver for their Home Office illustrates their commitment to well-being of employees and the environment. It’s a significant undertaking that is simply the right thing to do,” stated Scott Vyn, Integrated Architecture Director of Design.

“It was an honor to work with a company like Gordon Food Service, that is committed to the environment as well as its people, keeping both in mind throughout the entire process. The Home Office was one of our largest, signature projects and the LEED Silver certification complements the forward-looking vision behind this facility,” added John DeBlaay, Vice President of Dan Vos Construction Company.

LEED is the foremost program for the design, construction, and operation of green buildings. More than 72,000 commercial and institutional projects are currently participating in LEED, comprising more than 13.8 billion square feet of construction space in all 50 states and 150 countries.
